Chimes 8 minutes late

by Vicki
(Mesquite, Texas)

My clock looks exactly like the one pictured above.

After winding this time, it started chiming 8 minutes late.

For example, at 8:00, it chimes 8 times at 8:08, chimes for the quarter hour at 8:23, etc. How do I fix this?

I made sure the hour hand is properly placed.

I even tried slowing down the time by adjusting the bob, but I don't think that's the correct fix.

Hand adjustment
by: Timemender

The hand is mounted on a brass slip bushing, it can be adjusted to point to the correct time for the chime to take place. It would be best to let a repairman take care of that problem. It is a quick and easy fix.

Inaccurate chime time
by: Anonymous

Same here except my Ridgeway Grand.. chimes 8 at 8:10, 8:25, 8:40, 8:50 etc.

Someone please provide a suggested fix

Hi here is the solution to your problem
The reason that your clock strikes at the wrong times is because basically the minute hand is in the wrong position.
To adjust this, you have to remove the minute hand by losening the nut that holds it in place.
Then you put the minute hand back into the position that will give the correct number of chimes and then put the nut back.
After that you turn the minute hand to show the correct time.
So in other words when the clock chimes 10 minutes late, then you simply remove the minute hand hand put it back 10 minutes.
This will mean that the clock wil chime the right number of chimes at the time shown.
Now to set the clock you turn the minute hand forward until it shows the right time
