Clock stopped Chiming

by Jim
(Lloydminster, AB, Canada)

One of the weights fell off of the chain and ever since that time my grandfather clock does not chime on a regular basis.

Why is it doing this? Please advise.

Hi Jim

To understand why your clock does not chime anymore, you first need to know what the weights are for.

Every weight drives a different function on your clock. One is needed for the time, one for the chime.

The weight are simply there to store the energy for a certain period. When you move the weights up you recharge this energy.
