How do I clean my Colonial Manufacturing clock?

Colonial Manufacturing Co Grandfather clock model #1302

My dad has a beautiful Colonial Grandfather Clock, model # 1302.

He purchased it somewhere around the 1980's.

He has oiled it regularly and it still works but it doesn't chime all the times.

I figure it just needs cleaning.

I understand you can take out the inner workings and clean it but I don't know what fluid you clean it with.

My dad is giving this clock to me for my new home I am building.

I would like to move it to my house then clean it.

Can anyone help me with instructions on moving and cleaning this beauty?

Have it Cleaned NEW
by: theclockmedicdotcom

If oiling doesn't keep that clock running properly, get it cleaned by a qualified clockmaker.

Your clock's movement needs to be completely disassembled, cleaned and it needs the pivots and bushing inspected and polished.

If you feel like you can do that, great. Otherwise, let someone who does it for a living do it. It's not a small job, and doing it improperly WILL cause damage.

I mean, if you DON'T want it to last another 30 years, then don't clean it. Otherwise, have it done properly and get a long life out of it.

It's expensive, but the kind of cost anyone can afford every decade or so.
Should run you between $350-500.
Worth every penny.
