Winding the clock

by Dave
(Victorville, CA USA)

Hello,

I have a brand new Kassel 31 day wall clock. It has two key holes, one for the chime and one for its operation.

I do not know which one is which. Is the left one for the chime, or is it the right one? As I wind the clock, it also makes a startling noise like the spring has spun loose.

I wind each side about 8 complete turns and it seems like it is under alot of stress to go any further.

Yet, it doesn't last for 31 days. Any info would be appreciated.
