Adjusting the chime on my Sligh grandfather clock

by Dean
(Iowa)

I set the time on my new to me Sligh grandfather clock by simply rotating the hands to the correct time.

But now the chime is wrong, always chimes three hours late.

Chimes three times at 6 pm 4 times at 7 pm and so on.

How should I have set it and how to I get it synchronized?

Thanks,

Dean

strike not matching time.. NEW
by: Anonymous

Hi, there!
What has happened to the 2 hour difference of strike # not coinciding with what time it is was an accidental bump or movement of the hour hand during winding or someone moved the hour hand when there was a seasonal change thinking it will alter the change. It will not. The mechanism does not recognize where the hour hand is because it is guided by the number of revolutions of the minute hand.
To correct the setting, gently move the hour hand as close from the center as possible to agree with what it strikes. Then, reset the correct time by moving the minute hand around, allowing it to chime each quarter till it agrees. .
TIME CHANGE: For "fall back", stop the pendulum for the gaining hour then after one hour, push to restart. For "spring forward", move minute hand one revolution forward.

Thanks!

Thanks! I was hoping it was that simple, but just wanted to make sure before I tried it. I figured I had screwed it up myself setting it.

Just what Ive learned in the last 2 days
by: Anonymous

Hi. I've done a lot of research in the last 2 days trying to find my clock. I ran across your exact problem. Lets say the time is really 6pm. But your clock just chimed 3. The clock thinks its 3pm. Now this is real simple. What you do is wait a min after it chimes then back the hour hand to 3. Now all you have to do is move the min hand forward slowly to the 15 min chime spots. LET THEM CHIME AT EACH QUARTER. don't force it past. Keep doing this until you've reached the correct time. Hope this helps.
