Chimes bang the back of the clock

by Steve Wagner

Hello,

I have an 80-year-old clock with 5 long tubes.

When the hammer hits them the bottom of the tubes bang slightly against the inside wooden back of the clock.

I'm guessing something isn't set quite right.

Can anyone suggest how to get the banging to stop? The tubes are hung by thin wire.

Thank-you!
Steve

Hi Steve

Thanks for your submission.
You can check to see if the clock is leaning to the back with the aid of a spirit level.

Another thing to check is the hood with the movement. See if this has not moved too far to the back.
