After raising the three weights using the key, cables are used to suspend the weights, the two outside weights don't move.

Only the center weight drops.

The clock still keeps accurate time.

The model number is 0985-1-HS.

Any suggestions?

Problem with the chimes NEW
by: Polly

I am having the same problem with my Trend grandfather Clock by Sigh. It chimed when we first got it then one day I touched the switch that has the chimes to change the song and it clicked and then never worked again. It still keeps time though.

Weights not coming down NEW
by: Bob Bartow

Mike,

We service around 800 Grandfather clocks per year in the Atlanta area. A large amount of our repairs consist of cleaning and re-oiling the movement. Most of our new customers never have that done. If the silent switches are not being used and if you are still having problems with the chiming and striking side of your clock, a good cleaning and re-oiling might be all it needs. A simple re-oiling without cleaning the old oil first is not a good idea. The old dirty oil and new fresh oil will produce a sludge that will act as an abrasive and wear the pivot and bushing out on the movement faster than you will want.

Good luck

Weights NEW
by: Anonymous

The outside weights are for the chimes. Their are two adjustments on the face for both the hourly and quarter hour chimes. They're probably both on Silent. The hour one is just Off or On. The other lets you select which chime you want. Westminster, etc.
