Silencing chime and strike (and reverse)

by Kenneth

I have recently inherited a Herschede grandfather clock model 217 (made in 1947).

I printed a manual from the internet, but it doesn't tell how to silence re restart the chime or strike.

Any information on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.

No Cords on Herschel 1978 w/ Jauch PL 78 NEW
by: Das

Hello, you might not still frequent this site, but this pertains to my clock. I have a 1978 Herschel grandmother clock with the Jauch PL 78 movement. The manual states there should be the cords you describe to silence the clock. However there are no cords on mine, the eye rings are screwed into the case on both sides but there are no cords to loop into the eye rings. Any reason why this might be and how could I fix this? Thank you!!!

silence Chime and strike.
by: Chris Berry

Hi. I just got mine. I am starting a clock repair and restoration business. to silence the chimes and strike, open the door and look up and to the back of the case on either side of the pendulum. there should be to strings with rings on the end. Gently pull the string and clip the ring into the little eye hook ring on the side of the case. the right side is for melody and the left is for hour strike. This applies to the chime rod movement only. I have no experience with the tubular chime mechanism.
